Answers to the Questions We Hear Most Often
Is the Richland Public Library Foundation part of the Richland Public Library?
No, the RPLF is an independent, non-profit organization, with its own volunteer board. The Foundation is charged with raising funds in line with Richland Public Library priorities. It is a private 501(c)(3) organization and its Federal Tax ID number is: 91-2037071
Why does the Library need money if it is funded by the City?
The City of Richland provides essential financial support for Library operations annually. The City has made major investments in Library branch renovations and the upgrading of physical spaces. We appreciate the strong support from City leadership and Richland taxpayers. But like those who come to the Library, the RPL has aspirations beyond what the City can reasonably provide. Private philanthropy plays a pivotal role in transforming those aspirations into reality. A gift to the Foundation supports work that turns a great idea into a new pilot activity for patrons, expands existing programming to new participants, and brings the full wealth of knowledge, tools, and resources of the Library to the community, both in person and online. Foundation gifts may also fund new uses for existing Library spaces, and potentially, additional Library branches in the future.
Have there been previous philanthropic efforts for the Library?
Yes, the Richland Public Library Foundation was established in the year 2000 to raise philanthropic dollars for the Library, especially through special events and renovation campaigns. The Foundation has been one of several non-profit organizations that have raised funds for the Library over the years. The Richland Public Library Foundation has been charged with leading philanthropy and coordinating fundraising for special capital projects and expanded services.
Are there other organizations that raise funds for the Library? How is the Foundation different from the Friends of the RPL?
The Richland Public Library Foundation is a fundraising organization for capital projects and special programs for the Richland Public Library. The Friends of the Richland Public Library is a separate non-profit organization that provides volunteer services and supplemental funding to the RPL for educational and cultural programs and access to inexpensive books.  Through book sales and memberships, the Friends raise money to help supply the Library with more books, reference materials and recordings, young adult and children's programming, and new technology, such as e-readers, laptops, and public internet connected computers.
What types of programs and activities will my gift support?
Gifts of all sizes are welcome and needed. Richland Public Library Foundation gifts support the significant work of the Library leadership team to experiment and grow the reach and impact of the Richland Public Library for the greatest benefit of the Richland community.
Can I donate books to the Library?
Book donations are handled by the Friends of the Richland Public Library. You can find out more at: Friends
Are there opportunities to make gifts of stock, real estate or other assets to the Foundation?
